A Cork Coast Guard unit has reunited a dog with its grateful owners after the pup struggled in the water off the coast of Kinsale tonight.
At around 4 p.m., the Old Head / Seven Heads Coast Guard received an alert that a dog had fallen into the water on Garrylucas Beach.
Fortunately, the team quickly reached the scene and the dog was safely reunited with its owners.
The unit shared an update tonight of the rescue mission, with which they were also assisted by An Garda Siochana.
“Valentia commissioned our unit to respond to an incident where a dog had fallen off a cliff near Garrylucas beach. Our cliff rescue team set up and lowered a climber to rescue the dog.
“Today’s incident highlights once again the importance of calling 999/112 once you see someone in distress.
“PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT A RESCUE in situations like this. Our team has the training, equipment and experience to perform a quick rescue in these conditions.”
Yesterday the same coast guard unit offered its condolences after they assisted in the recovery of a body near the same area.
A multi-agency recovery of an individual was carried out yesterday afternoon off the Old Head of Kinsale in fierce weather conditions when the winds reached speeds of over 100 km / h.
Teams from the Old Head / Seven Heads Coast Guard Unit, Gardai, RNLI and the National Ambulance Service were tasked with recovering a missing person who was located using thermal imaging.
Sadly, the individual had passed away when he was located, and a Coast Guard officer told Cork Beo it was a “recovery rather than a rescue.”

The Rescue 117 Sikorsky helicopter crew has been widely praised on social media for their skill and bravery in making what was a very difficult recovery.
Video footage taken by the coast guard unit shows a Rescue 117 helicopter crew member being dragged into rough seas.
“Charged yesterday to the Old Head of Kinsale together with the Old Head / Seven Heads Coast Guard Unit, NAS, Garda and RNLI for a missing person,” the Facebook page Rescue 117 posted today.
“Located with FLIR camera. Condolences to the victim’s friends and family and may they rest in peace.
“Images with appreciation from the Coast Guard unit showing the difficult location and excellent flying skills of the crew involved in the recovery,” they said.
Posting the video on its Facebook page, the Old Head / Seven Heads Coast Guard Unit said: “Condolences to the family and friends of the victim, RIP.”
