Met Eireann has issued a new weather advisory for five counties as the winds of Storm Bella persist.

A seven-county warning was due to expire at 2 p.m., but the forecaster issued a new updated warning this afternoon.

Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Sligo and Kerry are all on yellow wind alert status and will stay that way until 7am Tuesday morning.

The alert says: “Today and tonight the northwest winds will reach average speeds of 50 to 65 km / h with gusts of 90 to 110 km / h, stronger on the coasts.”

Winds will remain strong in all other parts of the country, but not to a level where an official warning is deemed necessary.

Elsewhere, it’s expected to be a frigid end to 2020 with snow forecast in some places.

A forecaster from Met Eireann said: “It will be a cold ending to 2020 with icy nights.

“There will be some winter downpours with the risk of more persistent rain, sleet or snow for a time through Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning.”
