Ireland’s incidence rate now stands at 209.6 after a Christmas surge that has seen 9,979 new cases of Covid-19 in just 14 days.
Dr. Tony Holohan warned that the situation is deteriorating rapidly and, with the closure back on track, it will be a week or two before the restrictions have an impact on cases.
Donegal, Wexford, Limerick and Louth now have rates of more than 300 per 100,000 during the last 14 days.
Speaking Sunday night, Dr. Holohan said: “If we do not act now to stop the spread of COVID-19, we will not be able to protect those in our society who are at increased risk of serious illness or death.”
“Stay home, don’t visit friends or family unless you are providing essential care and have no visitors in your home. Follow public health advice.”
Here’s an in-depth look at how each county in the Republic of Ireland is doing right now – data comes from the Health Department as of midnight December 26.
