An airliner traveling from Spain to the UK had to divert to Cork last night after a disruptive passenger became too much for the crew.
The Jet 2 flight en route from Fuerteventura to Manchester was diverted to Cork after the captain and crew became concerned about the behavior of the woman, who was traveling with her partner and son.
Airport police and the fire service met the plane after it made an unexpected stop on the Cork runway. The woman, in her 30s, was arrested and will appear in court in Cork later today.
It is believed that she was highly intoxicated and the captain made the call to divert her after he became concerned about the safety of the flight.
A CorkAirport spokesperson told CorkBeo that Togher’s Gardai were called in and interviewed the crew.
“The passenger was unloaded along with her partner and son,” the spokesman said.
“As there was no accommodation available for the couple and the child, they boarded the flight again before continuing to Manchester.”
The flight landed safely in Manchester: Gardai in Togher is expected to contact his counterparts in Manchester while the investigation of the incident continues.
The woman will appear in court today in Cork.
A Garda spokesperson told CorkBeo: “Gardaí responded to an incident at Cork airport yesterday.
“A woman in her 30s was taken off a flight from Fuerteventura to Manchester that had been diverted to Cork airport.
“The woman was arrested and transferred to Togher Garda Station, where she was detained under section 48 of the State Airports (Shannon Group) Act 2014.
“She has been charged and is currently in custody. She is scheduled to appear in Cork District Court today.”
CorkBeo will have more information on this story as it unfolds.
