2.25 Leopardstown
Savills Chase (Grade 1) | 3m | RTE2 / RTV
Rarely has the Leopardstown parade ring been as talented as it will be before this magnificent run steeped in Irish racing history.
The Savills Chase had the ingredients to be the best race run this Christmas and the returns have not disappointed.
Past winners Delta Work and Kemboy take on a fleet of young talents in Minella Indo, Samcro, Allaho and Fakir D’Oudairies, while a rejuvenated Presenting Percy adds more intrigue.
There are ten horses classified as 160 or more. To put that in context, the average number of horses classified north of 160 that have contested this race over the last decade is four.

When Ruby Walsh propelled Tidal Bay to come from an unpromising position in 2012, considered one of the best races of this race, only four horses with a 160 rating struggled.
The strength in depth is incredible and while the reigning Gold Cup hero Al Boum Photo is still on his way to his tried and tested route to Cheltenham as he heads to Tramore on New Years Day, this race is likely to cause ripples. in the market. for the highlights of the festival.

Delta Work comes to life in Leopardstown. Gordon Elliott’s manager has won three of his four starts at the track, including this race and the Irish Gold Cup last season.
While he lacked sparkle on his return to Down Royal, he usually shows up for his first race of the season and Elliott revealed that Jack Kennedy didn’t have to think twice about riding last year’s winner over Presenting Percy and Samcro.
Willie Mullins has an outstanding record in the Irish Gold Cup and has won that race ten times, but his record in this over the same course and distance is the polar opposite.

It took Mullins until 2015 to win his first Savills Chase with Don Poli, while Kemboy became the champion coach’s second scorer in 2018.
Paul Townend has chosen not to ride Kemboy in preference to Allaho, a well beaten sixth in a misty John Durkan Chase on his return, but a solid third in last season’s RSA Chase.
On that occasion, there was only one distance between Allaho and Minella Indo (second), with the latter coming into this competition after two impressive victories in less company this season.
He may be open to the biggest improvement from the rookies who stayed last season and ranks as a serious challenger in this all-star lineup.
Jack Kennedy had a choice of Delta Work, Presenting Percy and Samcro, but according to Gordon Elliott, his star driver didn’t have to think twice about who he was going to ride.
It was always going to be Delta Work and it’s hard to argue with that as Kennedy gets a great tune from the five-time Grade 1 winner.
Kennedy has been on board for two of those high-profile wins, outcast Davy Russell has teamed up with Delta Work with the other three. In addition to catching this race last year, Kennedy and Delta Work won the Irish Gold Cup on the same course and distance.
Elliott predicts a daring display of the Gigginstown-owned chaser at his favorite racetrack.
