About 1,000 homes in Ireland are without power tonight as the end of Storm Bella hits the nation, with snow covering various parts of the country.
Yellow wind advisories have been issued to eight counties ahead of a freezing night that will send mercury plummeting.
And seven more will be whipped by racing winds tonight, with gusts of up to 110 km / h expected in some parts.
The snow warning is in effect in Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Longford, Louth, Leitrim, Roscommon and Sligo, and will last until 7am tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the seven counties facing a wind advisory, effective from 6 p.m. tonight to 2 p.m. tomorrow, are Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Clare, Cork and Kerry.
Eireann’s forecast for tonight reads: “This cold and windy night with widespread rain to start, some sleet and snow.”
“The rains will become more scattered overnight. The lowest temperatures of 0 to 3 degrees occur early in the evening with frosts and frozen patches developing.
“Temperatures rise later as the west-northwest winds increase from cool to strong and gusty with gales or strong gales off the Atlantic coasts.”
Storm Bella brought fierce winds and torrential rain last night, and left more than 1,000 homes without power.
The ESB said crews are continuing to work on the faults and that they will all be repaired throughout the day.
“Some of the faults are from this morning, as well as sources of wind from last night,” the company said in a statement.
The affected areas include Templeogue in Dublin, Kilkock in Co Kildare, Milltown in Co Kerry and Milford, Co Donegal.
Freezing conditions do not seem likely to improve anytime soon, with temperatures scheduled to hit -4 on Tuesday night as more snow covers the country.
The mercury will stay below zero degrees every night for the first half of the week.
