A MAN HAS BEEN arrested in connection with the robbery at a premises in Glencar, Co Donegal.

At around 9.40am this morning, a man was reported to have entered a premises on Circular Road, Ballyboe armed with what appeared to be a weapon.

He is reported to have threatened staff before fleeing the scene on foot with a sum of cash and a number of cigarettes.

In the wake of this incident, the Gardaí responded to reports of a vehicle theft, intercepting a car in Donegal City and arresting the driver, a man in his 20s.

Gardaí recovered an alleged pistol, a sum of cash and a quantity of cigarettes. The suspicious pistol will be sent to the Ballistics Unit for analysis. The car was impounded for technical examination.

The detained man is currently detained at Letterkenny Garda station under the provisions of section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
