A man in his 20s has been arrested in connection with a horrific robbery at gunpoint in Donegal.

The only gunman broke into a Spar Express in Glencar around 9:40 am yesterday morning.

Staff were petrified when, after threatening those who worked at the store, the gunman fled on foot with a sum of cash and a number of cigarettes.

Fortunately, Gardai arrested the man shortly thereafter and seized a suspicious handgun, as well as cash and cigarettes.

Officers made the arrest after responding to reports of a theft of a vehicle and have since sent the suspect weapon to the Ballistics Unit for analysis.
