JOHN McAreavey and his wife Tara Brennan have celebrated their first Christmas together with their newborn son James.
John, who lost his first wife Michaela in 2011, shared images of his family’s holiday celebrations on social media.
He captioned the photo of himself, Tara and the adorable James: “Merry Christmas.”
The resplendent new father shared several photos of the family in front of their Christmas tree and traveling to a hotel in Dublin.
In 2011, John’s late wife Michaela tragically died while the couple were on their honeymoon in Mauritius in 2011.
In 2016, John remarried Co Kildare accountant Tara, who he says has supported him in seeking justice for Michaela, including when he returned to Mauritius in April 2017 to launch a new appeal.
TIRELESS CAMPAIGN
Michaela, the daughter of Tyrone’s former manager Mickey Harte, was only 27 when she was killed.
In the years since John campaigned tirelessly for justice for Michaela. and even launched a podcast to draw attention to the murder.
Two hotel workers, Avinash Treebhoowoon and Sandip Moneea, were charged with the murder but later acquitted.
John recently spoke with Newstalk’s Pat Kenny about finding love again with Tara, whom he met in 2012 at a Michaela memorial event, after losing her so tragically.
FAMILY JOY
He said: “I think people sometimes think that every time you suffer what I have suffered, maybe you have to keep being clouded by negative energy and you have to live your life in a certain way, almost in victim mode.”
John shared how delighted he was to become a father.
He said: “The reality is that life has been very good for me, I was able to find Tara and now we have had a beautiful relationship and now we are about to have an addition to our family.
“It’s something I’m very grateful for and I’m very excited about it.”
After John criticized local authorities in Mauritius for forcing him to tolerate “nonsense” since Michaela’s death, police in Mauritius launched a new investigation into Honeymoon’s murder earlier this year.
