Saturday’s races got off to an unexpected start with two of the first three races won by ejected horses with odds of 125-1 and 100-1.
Ballycallan Fame started off with a wide margin winner of the day’s opening race at Wetherby at 125-1, while Awkwafina narrowly held on to the odds favorite from Palm Beach to score at Limerick at 100-1.
Ballycallan Fame, trained by Nick Kent, had been put on its last outing in a listed rookie hurdle when it was driven by Dan Skelton.
The five-year-old was positively ridden early on by jockey Charlie Hammond and opened a significant gap with her rivals as the female runners headed down the back straight for the second time at the 2m3½f mares rookie fence.

Favorite Global Harmony, ridden by Bridget Andrews and trained by Skelton, tried in vain to shut down the leader on the home straight, but Ballycallan Fame was always in control despite their long odds.
Hammond said: “I’ve done a lot with her at home and she’s jumped really well, so we knew that was her forte. She’s been quite interested in her races before and getting her into the rhythm from the start was key and we’ve galloped.” everything else on the ground.
“It’s a bit shocking, though Nick [Kent] I actually liked him a bit in every way. It’s a great training performance as it was a huge improvement over what I had done before. “

Awkwafina was making her obstacle course debut in Limerick after having previously raced at the Flat. She bravely responded from the last flight to send off Palm Beach, which had been second in her obstacle course debut for Joseph O’Brien and JP McManus.
Winning jockey Philip Enright said: “I was talking to [trainer] Sam [Curling] this morning and he said she had just done a little work away from the grass and it went well and said she jumped well. He thought she would handle the ground and she did and galloped toward the strong line. “
Six meetings will be held in Britain and Ireland on Saturday, all of which have no spectators due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
