Republic of Ireland forward Adam Idah has signed a new contract in Norwich City, extending his stay until June 2024.

The Cork native, who made his debut in both the Premier League and senior team in 2020, had signed his first professional contract with the Canaries in 2019.

Speaking after signing new terms, Idah said: “I’m over the moon. When I heard the news, I knew immediately that I wanted to extend my contract with the club because since I came here, I have loved every moment.

“I love the club and it’s like a second family to me. Everyone has supported me from the moment I came here and it reminds me a lot of home. Norwich is very similar to Cork because everyone here is so friendly, not just at the club. but in public.

“I have developed a lot as a player and have been through all age groups since I was 16. I still want to improve and continue to develop and I think this is the best place to do that.”

Currently out of play with a knee ligament injury sustained in Ireland’s UEFA Nations League loss to Wales in Cardiff in November, Idah is expected to return to first-team action earlier in the year.

The 19-year-old had made seven championship games this season prior to injury, scoring the winning goal in Norwich’s season opener against Huddersfield.

Norwich manager Daniel Farke cited Idah’s potential to push forward the decision to offer updated terms to the five-time international in Ireland.

“It is great news for both parties. We have a great boy and a player with a lot of potential. He knows that he has people who trust him and we are a club that gives a stage to young players,” he said.

“He was also able to be called up for the Republic of Ireland first team. He can play in various positions and we wanted to give him more stage this season. Unfortunately, he was stopped due to injury, but there is much to come.

“He will need to improve and once he returns to team training, if he can continue with his attitude, I think he will have a great future.”
