Tesco Ireland has issued an urgent recall of a popular snack product over health concerns.

The retailer shared a notice Wednesday about some batches of Linwoods Cold Milled Flax, Sunflower, Pumpkin & Sesame Seeds & Goji Berries 425G.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has warned that these batches should be recalled due to the presence of ethylene oxide in sesame seeds, which is not allowed for use in food in the EU.

A spokesperson for the FSAI said: “Although the consumption of products containing contaminated sesame seeds does not pose an immediate health risk, there may be health problems if ethylene oxide continues to be consumed for an extended period.

“Therefore, exposure to this substance should be minimized. Recall notices at outlets will be displayed in stores that are supplied with the involved batch.”

The lots affected by the recall are those with the expiration dates of 08/31/21 and 09/30/21, and with lot codes 21720, 23420, 23220, 24620, and 25420.
