80-year-old man dies in car accident in Bantry, Co Cork as gardai appeal for witnesses and dash cam footage

An 80-year-old man was tragically killed tonight in a single car accident.

It happened around 5.55pm on the L4704 from Durrus to Kilcrohane, in the town of Ahakista in Bantry, Co Cork.

Gardai ran to the place where the car was located in a ditch.

The 80-year-old male driver was fatally injured.

His body has been moved from the scene to the morgue at Cork University Hospital, where an autopsy will be performed in due course.

The road will be closed overnight and a technical examination by forensic collision investigators will take place in the morning. There are local deviations.

A Garda spokesperson said in a statement: “Gardai in Bantry is asking for any witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

“They are also attractive to road users who may have camera footage (including dash cam) traveling through Ahakista town, so the footage is available to Gardai.”
