A retiree died after his car crashed into a ditch.
The incident occurred on the L4704 from Durrus to Kilcrohane, in the town of Ahakista, Bantry, Cork at approximately 5:55 p.m. tonight.
Gardaí attended the scene and the car was located in a ditch.
The male driver, who was 80 years old, died at the scene.
His body was taken to the morgue at Cork University Hospital, where an autopsy will be performed in due course.
The road will be closed overnight and a technical examination by forensic collision investigators will take place in the morning.
There are local deviations.
Gardaí in Bantry is asking for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
They are also attractive to road users who may have camera footage (including dash cam) traveling through the city of Ahakista, to make available to the Gardaí.
