Model Stella Tennant died suddenly at age 50, her family confirmed.
Her family said in a statement: “It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden death of Stella Tennant on December 22, 2020.
“Stella was a wonderful woman and an inspiration to all of us. We will miss her so much.
“His family asks that their privacy be respected. Arrangements for a memorial service will be announced at a later date.”
A darling of the ’90s fashion scene, Stella was known for her androgynous appearance and aristocratic origin.
In August, the Daily Mail reported that she had separated from her husband David Lasnet after 21 years of marriage.
The model married the French photographer at the height of her fame and they had four children together, who are now in their teens and early 20s.
David later retrained as an osteopath and the couple raised their family in Scottish Borders, near the 16th-century estate of Stella’s parents.
Stella was the granddaughter of the 11th Duke of Devonshire and Deborah Mitford, one of the famous aristocratic sisters.
She then made a name for herself on runways and magazine covers around the world and starred in campaigns for artists like Calvin Klein, Chanel, and Burberry.
In 2012 she appeared before millions of people at the closing ceremony of the London Olympics when she was selected as one of the few British models, including Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss, to represent the fashion industry.
In the same year, she was inducted into the Scottish Fashion Awards Hall of Fame.
Away from modeling, Stella campaigned with a green lifestyle organization to promote less energy use in the home.
