Former Mayo and Kerry coach Donie Buckley will return to intercountry football as part of Monaghan’s back team next season.
The highly regarded coach played an integral role with his native Kerry as they found only Dublin to be too good at the 2019 SFC All-Ireland, but manager Peter Keane dropped his services earlier this year.
Buckley’s previous six-year stint with Mayo culminated with the county reaching three Ireland finals, where as in 2020, Dublin proved its best luck.
Monaghan’s manager Seamus McEnaney will lead his team in the battle against three provincial enemies in his Division 1 group in 2021, with Armagh, Donegal and Tyrone in opposition.
McEnaney’s training setup has been stripped of the services of Peter Donnelly and Conor Laverty, who have left to fill positions with Tyrone and Down, and Buckley will take an active role in revitalizing a Farney team that suffered a painful extra. . time lost to Cavan in the preliminary round of the Ulster Championship in October.
