Met Eireann has issued a weather advisory for five counties, as some parts of the country will see heavy rains today.
The yellow rain status alert was issued this morning and will take effect from 3 p.m. until the national forecaster warns that some areas could be affected by localized flooding.
The warning is in effect for Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford and will expire at 9am on Wednesday morning.
The warning reads: “Heavy rains can sometimes cause localized flooding.
“Total rainfall is generally around 30-40mm, higher in mountainous areas.”
A forecaster from Met Eireann added that rain will spread across the southwest and spread across much of Munster and southern Leinster into the afternoon, while outbreaks of sleet and snow can be expected tonight.
They added: “Elsewhere, it will remain largely dry with sunny spells and scattered showers. A cold day with 4-7 degree highs with mostly light winds, but a cool northeast breeze will develop in the south later.
Outbreaks of rain will spread across much of Munster, Connacht and Leinster tonight, but it looks like Ulster will remain largely dry with just a few showers.
“Heavy rains are expected in the south with risk of localized flooding there. As the night progresses, the rain will increasingly turn to sleet or snow in the Munster highlands.”
