Deutsche Post DHL has halted deliveries in and out of Ireland following the suspension of UK flights and transport for fear of the new variant of the coronavirus.
The German firm said it temporarily halted services to Britain and Ireland.
“Unfortunately, we have been forced to impose a complete halt on deliveries of private and commercial parcels and freight letters to Great Britain and Ireland until further notice,” said a statement from Deutsche Post DHL, which is the largest courier company. of the world.
Due to a lack of storage capacity, packages sent over the weekend would be returned to the sender, he said.
Letters and postcards were not affected by the ban, the statement said. Air cargo deliveries via DHL Express’ international Time Definite service would also continue.
Meanwhile, Royal Mail has suspended deliveries of packages and letters from the UK to continental Europe, Canada and Turkey. Shipments to the Republic of Ireland have not been affected.
In a statement on its website, Royal Mail said the Dover port closure and flight bans were causing a “significant disruption” in international services.
He said it was unclear how long it would last and that he was “looking for alternative access points pending the opening of the borders,” but in the meantime advised customers not to try to ship items to a long list of destinations.
