An off-duty Garda was arrested after failing a roadside breath test in Cork on Saturday.
Gardai was called to the scene of an accident at the Silver Springs hotel in town at 5:30 a.m.
Officers subjected the off-duty Garda to breathalyzer who was later arrested and taken to the Gurranabraher Garda station.
Since then, the man has been released without charge.
Another person involved in the accident, who was driving a van, was treated for minor injuries at Cork University Hospital.
Gardai confirmed that investigations into the incident are ongoing.
A Garda spokesperson said: “On December 19, 2020, shortly after 5:30 AM, Gardaí attended the scene of a traffic collision involving a car and van in Silver Springs Hill, Cork City.
“The driver of the car, an off-duty member of An Garda Síochána, was arrested for failing a roadside breathalyzer test for alcohol.
“They took him to Gurranabraher Garda station and then released him without charge. The driver of the van was treated for minor injuries at Cork University Hospital. The investigation is ongoing.”
