Gardaí has detected a number of violations of Covid-19 regulations in the last 24 hours, including 30 people who socialize in a ‘shebeen’ and gastro-pubs that do not serve large meals.

In a statement, Gardaí said: “The vast majority of locals continue to comply, but An Garda Síochána continues to find premises that do not comply with the regulations.”

Gardaí said they had detected a series of violations of Covid-19 regulations by licensed establishments across the country (in Limerick, Cork, Carlow and Meath counties) over the past 24 hours.

In one case, a search was carried out on a suspected shebeen in Navan, Co Meath, where gardaí found 30 people socializing and drinking.

People in the crowd did not cover their faces and no social distancing was observed.

Gardaí also came across a number of gastro-pubs that did not comply with Covid-19 regulations and guidelines.

These violations included: There is no contact tracing record; 12 tables occupied in an establishment and no sign of food at any table; staff should not wear face masks.

Gardaí also discovered that ‘wet’ pubs “were opened for underground businesses” where pints were served.

“In all cases in which violations of public health regulations have been identified, An Garda Síochána will send files to the Director of the Public Ministry requesting advice on how to proceed,” added gardaí.

Meanwhile, gardaí is investigating alleged infractions that occurred at a funeral in Ramsgrange, Co Wexford, on 4 December.

The HSE has asked everyone present at the funeral to contact their local GP to reduce the spread of Covid-19.
