PUBLIC HEALTH OFFICIALS have confirmed that five more people have died with Covid-19 in Ireland.
The National Public Health Emergencies Team (NPHET) has reported another 527 cases of Covid-19.
The total number of people who have died now stands at 2,154, while the number of cases has reached 78,776.
Of the cases reported today:
- 271 are men and 255 are women
- 65% are under 45
- The average age is 37 years.
- 191 in Dublin, 54 in Cork, 44 in Donegal, 32 in Wexford, 27 in Kilkenny, and the remaining 179 cases are spread over 20 other counties.
As of 2:00 p.m. today, 207 patients with Covid-19 are hospitalized, with 28 in the ICU.
12 additional hospitalizations were insane in the last 24 hours.
The validation of the data by the Health Protection Surveillance Center has identified five previously confirmed cases, which is reflected in the current total of 78,776.
Medical Director Dr. Tony Holohan has said that “the numbers that we are seeing on all the key indicators of disease severity continue to give us solid reason for constant and constant concern.”
“As we move into a week with an exceptionally risky intrafamily and intergenerational mix, remember to act responsibly. Start this weekend. It is never too late to cut your contacts, cancel plans or avoid a crowd, ”said Dr. Holohan.
“Keep in mind that it may well be the link in a chain of transmission that ends with a vulnerable loved one contracting this dangerous disease. Stop that chain of transmission now, limit your movements today, ”he said.
The 14-day national incidence rate is currently 102.4 cases per 100,000 people.
The incidence rate is worst in Donegal, where there are 250 cases per 100,000, and it is less severe in Leitrim at 25 per 100,000.

The 14-day incidence rate in Dublin at 112.6 per 100,000.
HSE CEO Paul Reid has said he is confident Ireland will return to “normalcy” once the pandemic has passed.
Talking to TheJournal.ie, Reid said that “Ireland as a society is one that values commitment and values family and values our interactions with people and I think that is something that cannot be thrown away.”
Earlier today, Northern Ireland confirmed another 640 Covid-19 cases and seventeen deaths.
A six-week lockdown in the north will begin on December 26, and close contact and nonessential retail services will be closed.
