Viewers were divided Friday night when U2 frontman Bono chatted with Ryan Tubridy on the Late Late Show.
Bono was joined by The Edge as they spoke about homelessness and the hard work of frontline workers during the pandemic.
Speaking with Tubs, Bono said: “They are the people who risk their lives to help others, they really needed support and deserved support.
“If there is something that the pandemic has brought us, it is the correct order of appreciation.
“Any public announcement of giving away money is public relations, I just want to make that clear, if we are giving something publicly, you must accept that it is a kind of exercise in self-promotion.
“We’ve always tried to avoid that in this country, especially and over the years, sometimes over the years with music you have to declare it while you’re trying to get equivalent money.
“But this was very difficult, there were a lot of fights in the band over this, but we felt we had to go out and show solidarity by trying to show that if we really can’t be useful, let’s find people who are and try to get them protective clothing.
Many praised the U2 frontman for his kind work, as did Ryan Tubridy, when they took to social media during the show.

However, there were some who were not so convinced by the Dubliner and were not very happy to see it on their televisions.
