Detector dogs Sam and Bailey assisted in the discovery of drugs worth nearly € 139,000 at the Dublin and Athlone mail centers this week.

Today, with the help of the detector dog Sam, the Dublin Mail Center Treasury officials seized various types of illegal drugs with an estimated value of 117,000 euros.

Nearly 16 kg of drugs including herbal cannabis, magic mushrooms and cannabis-infused jelly candies, along with 4.5 liters of liquid amphetamines, were discovered in packages originating in the United States, France and the Netherlands.

The packages were declared as items such as ‘ornaments’, ‘candy’, ‘clothing’ and ‘gifts’ and were destined for addresses in Dublin and Louth.

Moreover, Athlone Mail Center Treasury officials, with the help of detector dog Bailey, seized quantities of heroin, MDMA, cocaine, and herbal cannabis in packages that originated in the United States and the United Kingdom and that they were destined for various addresses throughout the country. .

The drugs seized in Athlone have an estimated value of almost 21,400 euros and weigh 1.7 kilos.

The seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the importation of illegal drugs.
