Renowned explorer, author and filmmaker Tim Severin has died. He was 80 years old.
Born in India, educated in England, and a West Cork resident for several years, Severin retraced the travels of Saint Brendan the Navigator, Sindbad the Navigator, Jason and the Argonauts, Ulysses, Genghis Khan, and Robinson Crusoe throughout a remarkable global adventure race.

His family said he died peacefully at home and is now ready for his last trip.
He is survived by his wife, Dee, and daughter Ida, son-in-law James Ashworth, and grandsons George and Guy.
