FOUR PEOPLE have been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence over a 24-hour period in Mallow, Co Cork.
As part of the North Cork Divisional Police Plan for Christmas, the gardaí conducted a series of checkpoints and patrols in the area between December 17-18.
Three arrests were made for suspected driving under the influence and one for drug driving.
A driver was twice arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence over a six-hour period in Mallow Town.
Gardaí said the arrests were made as a result of mandatory poison test checks, patrols and a call from a member of the public.
A file is being prepared for the local district officer regarding the five incidents.

“Never get behind the wheel if you are under the influence of drink or drugs,” said the head of the road enforcement unit in North Cork, Inspector Joe O Connor, adding that the AGS Christmas Road Safety Campaign will be extended Until January 5.
“Gardaí will continue to enforce all traffic laws and will try to reduce the risk of collisions on the roads. We will focus on driving under the influence, speeding, not wearing a seat belt and holding a mobile phone while driving. “
