Taoiseach Micheal Martin tested negative for Covid-19, it has been confirmed.

A spokesperson said Martin was tested today after French President Emmanuel Macron emerged as positive for the disease.

The Taoiseach had attended a meeting of the European Council last week in which President Macron was present.

Martin limited his movements and contacts and got tested immediately today once news of President Macron’s diagnosis arrived.

A spokesperson for Martin confirmed to the Irish Mirror that Martin’s test came back negative.

Mr. Martin had postponed the scheduled engagements for this afternoon.

A Martin spokesperson previously told the Irish Mirror that the Taoiseach was limiting its contacts this afternoon following news of Macron’s positive test result.

They said: “There were some commitments that we are putting off this afternoon, they have been delayed.

“He limits himself to making calls, but he does not meet anyone and limits his contacts until the result arrives.”

Meanwhile, Justice Minister Helen McEntee is restricting her movements after coming into “close contact” with someone who has shown symptoms of Covid-19.

A spokesperson for Ms McEntee confirmed to the Mirror: “The minister is restricting her movements due to being a close contact of someone who undergoes a Covid test after showing symptoms.”

McEntee recently announced that she is expecting her first baby.
