Ireland weather: expert predicts Christmas snow, while Met Eireann shares long-term forecast

Met Eireann has shared her long-term forecast as Christmas Day draws ever closer.

The national forecaster said stable weather is approaching towards the end of next week as the big day approaches.

Meanwhile, famous Donegal postman Michael Gallagher has used his unconventional prediction methods to make his big Christmas prediction.

He is known for making his long-term weather forecasts by observing the behavior of plants and animals.

And on whether the snow will fall on Christmas Day, he told RSVP Live: “That’s just one day, it’s hard to be so exact.

“But I know it’s going to snow, and it will be around Christmas Day. It’ll be there or that way.”

He added that there will be a wind from the east, which is never a good sign.

“Any wind that comes from the east is an unhealthy wind and brings a lot of flu and colds,” he continued.

“It’s a time when people need to stay warm.”

Meteorological experts Carlow Weather said it will become extremely unstable for the rest of this week with bouts of rain and strong winds.

And looking beyond that, they say things are going to have a drastic change.

However, Met Eireann seems less certain about snowfall on the big day itself, and conditions become “calmer” as we approach December 25.

Here’s the full forecast:

Friday: Heavy rains in the west early tomorrow morning will move east across the country in the morning and afternoon, followed by scattered showers and spells cleared in the west later. Heavier rains are expected in Munster and southern Leinster, with a risk of flooding. A relatively mild and windy day with cool, gusty southerly winds and higher afternoon temperatures of 9-13 degrees.
