An Irish father has been left in critical condition in the United States after suffering a horrible accident last week.

Armagh’s man, Sean Hughes, has been living in Philadelphia for five years, settling there with his wife Emily O’Neill and son Sean Jr.

It is understood that Sean, an active member of the Young Ireland Gaelic Football Club, sustained serious head injuries after an accident while working at a construction site last Friday.

He is currently in a medically induced coma.

A GoFundMe page has been created to help pay for his treatment and provide for his wife and two-year-old son.

The page, which has raised a staggering $ 56,000 (45,000 euros), read: “Sean had a terrible accident last Friday at work.

“He is currently in the hospital in critical condition in a medically induced coma from a serious head injury.

“We are asking for financial help for Sean, his family’s wife, Emily, and little Sean.

“Sean comes from Grange Co. Armagh, he’s the oldest son of Paul and Majella. Sean had played soccer for the Pearse Og’s until he came to America.

“She has been living here happily for five years, working hard and raising a family of her own. Emily and Sean have a son, Sean, who is two years old.

“Baby Sean is Sean’s world, he’s a doting dad to say the least.”
