Emergency services remain at the scene of a serious accident in Co Mayo this morning.
A teenage passenger is in critical condition in the hospital after the horrific car accident on the N5 in Sheeaune, Westport.
The driver of the car was also hospitalized with non-serious injuries.
The collision occurred at 11:45 pm when the young man’s car went off the road and collided with a concrete fence.
Gardai remains on the scene this morning.
The N5 remains partially closed as a result of the crushing.
A garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí is currently at the scene of a single vehicle traffic collision in Sheeaune, Westport, Co. Mayo, which occurred last night, Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at approximately 11:45 pm.
“A car ran off the road and collided with a concrete fence. A male passenger, in his thirties, received serious injuries as a result of the collision. He was taken to the Mayo University Hospital, where his status is described as critical.
“The driver of the car was taken to Mayo University Hospital with non-serious injuries.
“The road remains closed and the Garda forensic collision investigators are conducting a technical examination. There are detours in place. Investigations are ongoing. ”
