Sligo residents evacuated after asbestos fire in Larkhill area

Residents in the Larkhill area of ​​Sligo City are urged to keep their windows and doors closed due to an asbestos fire.

Emergency services were called to the fire in a small domestic garage shortly before 5 a.m. this morning.

The Sligo County Council said a small number of homes were evacuated as a “precautionary measure.”

Homes within a 150 meter radius of the fire have been asked to keep their doors and windows closed.

“The fire has been contained and the asbestos material has been muffled,” said a council spokesman.

Firefighters and gardaí attend the scene. Gardaí said no injuries have been reported at this time. The Health and Safety Authority will conduct an on-site inspection.
