Met Eireann has issued an urgent 12-hour warning ahead of what some experts describe as a “nasty storm” hitting the country this week.

Meteorological expert Carlow Weather has said there is a possibility of a “bad run” of weather Tuesday night and into Wednesday, coinciding with Met Eireann’s warning.

Carlow Weather said: “However, there is still a lot of uncertainty on the track and intensity. Along with the risk of high winds is the risk of heavy rain, but again there is uncertainty here.”

“Stay tuned for the weather forecasts for the next few days. Also of interest are the GFS charts showing the risk of colder weather for Christmas Day.

“There is still a long way to go, but the last three GFS updates have shown a risk of cold air beating down on Ireland by Christmas Day. I think a nice cool cool day would be nice.”

Elsewhere, there is a yellow state wind warning for Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford from 9pm tonight until 9am tomorrow morning.

It means that: “South winds will reach average speeds of 50 to 65 km / h with gusts of up to 100 km / h. There will be a risk of coastal flooding.”

There will be spells of sunshine and scattered showers in Dublin this morning and it will become more isolated in the afternoon with high temperatures of 10 ° C.

Winds from the southeast will increase strongly. near-hurricane and gusty. Coastal winds will develop leading to a risk of coastal flooding. Later in the evening, the rain will clear up into scattered thunderstorms. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 6 degrees will occur early in the evening. the night “.

This is what the next few days look like according to them:

tomorrow: “Wednesday will start wet and windy. Strong or near gale winds and gusts from the southeast will drift from south to southwest during the afternoon and gradually decrease. It will remain mostly cloudy with scattered heavy rains that will merge with longer periods of rain sometimes. Temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees “.

However, clouds will increase from the southwest with outbreaks of rain and drizzle will spread from the Atlantic in the afternoon.
