Taoiseach writes a letter to Adam King after his appearance on Toy Show

TAOISEACH MICHEÁL MARTIN has sent a letter to Adam King, the six-year-old boy who touched people’s hearts with his “virtual hug”.

King of Cork, who has brittle bones, rose to fame on RTÉ’s Late Late Toy Show last month when he displayed a paper heart with “A hug for you” written on it.

The idea was inspired by circumstances during the coronavirus pandemic, and An Post has now turned Adam’s virtual hug into a postmark.

In his letter, Martin wrote: “In my address to the country on Friday evening, I thanked the children of Ireland for their strength and for the way they have all dealt with Covid.

“When I said it, I couldn’t have believed that just hours later, the country would see such a perfect example of that force on the Late Late Toy Show.

Your virtual hug and your obvious kindness made the point better than ever.

During Adam’s initial appearance on the show, he shared his interest in space, as well as his dream of becoming Capcom, the ground flight communicator, for NASA.

That prompted a surprise video message, as well as a video call from retired astronaut Chris Hadfield, who told the young man: “The way you spoke, the way you treated everyone around you, but the way you showed us the things that you’re dreaming of, I found really inspiring. “

Martin encouraged Adam to follow his dream of working with NASA and thanked him for his “strength.”

You are an inspiration, Adam. Thank you very much for the strength that you have given to all who watch, ”he wrote.
