An Garda Síochána has issued a warning about a new trend on social media that is circulating online called ‘ghost’.

This trend challenges people to lie down on a road with a sheet over them in an attempt to stop oncoming traffic. The driver’s reaction is then recorded and uploaded to social media platforms in the hope that it will go viral.

On the official website of An Garda Síochána, they claim that Gardaí recently witnessed an incident in the southern region where a young woman received a series of minor injuries while participating in this activity.

Emergency services accompanied the woman to the hospital where she is being treated for injuries to her back, torso and ankle.

She was admitted to the hospital for several days after the incident occurred.

In a statement on his official Facebook page, An Garda Síochána said: “This activity is extremely irresponsible and poses a serious danger to participants and motorists. An Garda Síochána is urging people not to participate in this trend. on social media.

“Gardaí is particularly attractive to parents to educate their children on the dangers of participating in such activity and to highlight the importance of being seen while using Irish roads.”
