Inter-county players from the Gaelic Players Association (GPA) and the Gaelic Female Players Association (WGPA) have voted to merge into a single representative body of 4,000 members.
Voting took place at separate EGMs on Monday night, with 96% of WGPA delegates voting in favor and 100% of GPA delegates voting.
The EGMs were followed by a combined association meeting where a new National Transition Executive Committee was established which will meet in January to elect Executive Officers and co-chairs, as well as to decide on strategy before the first Annual General Meeting to be held will celebrate. in the second quarter of 2021.
A new National Executive Committee will then be elected at next year’s AGM.
Monday’s votes followed motions that were passed at the AGM of the GPA and the WGPA respectively in 2019 to formalize the relationship that already existed between the two representative bodies.
The GPA was formed in 1999 to represent inter-county male players, and the WGPA was launched in 2015 to represent inter-county camouflage players and female soccer players.
In late November, the GPA confirmed that it had agreed to a new four-year agreement with GAA that would allow it to continue receiving a 15% share of net business revenue through 2024.
Meanwhile, a recent report by the WGPA found that 93% of inter-county soccer players or pitchers received no travel expenses, with an average fuel cost of € 55 per week.
Subsequently, the Ladies Gaelic Football Association announced that it had already agreed to reimburse players for match day costs this championship season.
