Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp lamented his team’s slow start after they had to come back to secure a late point in a 1-1 draw at Fulham.
Bobby Decordova-Reid expertly hit the ball past the recently returned Alisson to give the Cottagers a well-deserved lead in the 25th minute, but the Reds finally found the tie when Mohamed Salah converted from the spot with 10 minutes remaining.
Fulham welcomed 2,000 supporters to Craven Cottage for the first time since February, something Klopp believes had an impact in ending Liverpool’s 18-game winning streak against newly promoted teams.
“I’m not frustrated by that anymore, but you’re right, it took us half an hour to get going and that of course makes the game more difficult,” said the German coach.
“It’s the first time that the fans are here for a long, long time and they obviously create an atmosphere, and it helped Fulham a lot in creating that atmosphere.
“They played differently than they usually do, long balls, high balls, these kinds of things, free throws. There were a lot of set pieces in the first half. But it is like this.
“With a lot of shouting from outside from all the coaches, you could see that in the first 15 minutes and then with the break he helped enormously and was much better.
“I think in the first half hour we could have lost the game, but in the next 60 we should have won it. In the end we get a point and that’s it. “
F365 says: Tired Liverpool reflects Klopp’s curmudgeonly mood
Fulham had five shots on goal and Alisson, recovering from a hamstring injury, was forced to make a series of key saves to prevent the Cottagers from extending their lead, and Klopp recognized his importance in the game.
“It was very important, obviously. You could see in one or two situations that he also needed rhythm, but in key moments he was there for sensational saves, “said the Reds coach.
