The Covid-19 incidence rate has risen in Limerick after 30 new confirmed cases of the disease were reported this Sunday night.
This is almost double the number of cases (16) that were reported to the Health Protection Surveillance Center on Saturday and Friday.
Nationwide, the National Public Health Emergency Team has reported 429 confirmed cases and one additional death.
Of the new cases, 66% are under 45 years of age and the mean age is 34. 122 cases are in Dublin, 46 in Donegal, 30 are in Limerick, 22 are in Laois, 20 are in Cork and the remaining 189 cases are distributed in all other counties.
At 2 pm this Sunday, 193 Covid-19 patients were in the hospital and 31 are in the ICU.
Commenting on the latest figures, Dr. Tony Holohan, Medical Director of the Department of Health, said: “Today, I am concerned that we are seeing the incidence of COVID-19 increasing again. 429 is a large number of cases according to the standard over the past few weeks and the five-day moving average has risen above 300 per day. Our efforts at Level 5 in recent weeks reduced the incidence rate from 14 days to 78 per 100,000 population, putting us in a position to have the lowest incidence of disease in Europe and ultimately protected many people and saved many lives. “
The 14-day incidence rate of Covid-19 nationwide is now 84.3 (per 100,000), while the rate in Limerick is 133.9.
Dr Holohan added: “Take today’s figures as a sign that now we all need to reduce our social contacts, limit our interactions with those outside our home, weigh the risks of the socialization that we plan for the next two weeks. , so that we can all have a Christmas as safe as possible. ”
