Danny Mills has claimed that Leeds United could look to replace Ezgjan Alioski when his contract expires at the end of the season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider Correspondent Connor Whitley, a former Whites and England defender, suggested Leeds will not go bankrupt to replace the North Macedonia international.
Alioski had his fifth consecutive Premier League start in Leeds’ 2-1 loss to West Ham on Friday night, but was dragged into halftime.
The 28-year-old started out as a left back against the Hammers but was replaced by young Jamie Shackleton, who was making his fourth league appearance of the season.
Last week against Chelsea, Alioski was substituted in the 69th minute after battling Timo Werner and Kai Havertz.
Football Insider revealed earlier this week that the Yorkshire giants were hoping to secure Alioski a new contract in a few weeks.
Asked by Football Insider If Alioski’s performance against West Ham may have changed Bielsa’s mind, Mills said: “He was always a player on the squad in the Championship, he was never a guaranteed starter.
“If you can bring better quality than Alioski, it depends on how much you will have to pay. If you can get better quality for little money, in terms of wages, then go for it.
“It doesn’t matter what position you are in, how good you are, if you can bring in better quality for less money or something similar, then you do.
“That will just depend on how well this season goes, who is available and who Leeds can bring in towards the end of the season.”
Alioski told BBC Radio Leeds last month that he “would love” to stay on Elland Road beyond the end of the season.
The versatile winger has appeared in 10 of Leedes’ 12 Premier League games this term.
