Michael Winters stole the show at Cheltenham on Saturday afternoon after his horse won the Caspian Caviar Gold Cup.

The Cork coach celebrated Chatham Street Lad’s victory by literally rolling around the parade ring at Prestbury Park.

He said before the race that he would be rolling in the mud if the eight-year-old won and that’s exactly what he did … on live TV.

Darragh O’Keefe, who rode the horse to victory, said after the race: “It was unbelievable. The only thing I thought might disappoint him was his jump a little bit, and he did it at times today.”

“It traveled like a dream, made some mistakes, but when I wanted it it was amazing.

“When Micky Winters comes to England, you have to take him seriously because when he has the ammunition he is able to train them. We thought he would run well, but we didn’t think he would.”

Winters added: “I would love to go to the festival with him. I will have to ask the owners, but I think they will agree.”

Winters was joined in Cheltenham by connections from Chatham Street Lad owner Vivian Healy, who wore the Mayo GAA colors as they backed the Westerners to beat Dublin in next weekend’s All-Ireland soccer final.
