Heartfelt tributes have been paid to a Cork woman who sadly lost her life in a tragic car accident earlier this week.
Arrangements have been announced for the funeral of Eileen Kennedy, who sadly died after being struck by an articulated truck Thursday afternoon.
Eileen, known to many as punk, was from the Mayfield area although she was a native of Errill in Co Laois.
“Unexpectedly after an accident,” says his death notice. “Beloved daughter of Sally and the late Joe and loving sister of Michael, Ann, Catherine and Josephine.
“Sadly missed by his heartbroken mother and siblings, his partner Martin, nieces, nephews, brother-in-law John, Josephine Robbie’s partner, Michael Bernie’s partner, Ann Noel’s partner, aunts, uncles, relatives and a large circle of friends “.
His funeral will be held in private, and the family will request that any donations be given to Cork Penny Dinners.
Online condolences describe Eileen, who was in her fifties, as “a lovely lady.”
“Cork has lost a great free spirit that brought an abundance of color and wit to the city’s everyday life,” read a message.
Councilman Joe Kavanagh said: “I would like to express my condolences to this lady’s family. This is a terrible tragedy, especially at this time of year, but it is not a good time for an incident as tragic as this. May she rest in peace “.
Gardai is seeking witnesses to the accident that occurred at the junction of North Ring Road and Old Youghal Road, outside Mayfield Business Park yesterday at approximately 4:50 p.m. on Thursday, December 10.
Gardaí is appealing to anyone who was in the area between 4:30 pm and 5:00 pm and has any information or footage (including dash cam) to contact the Mayfield Garda station at 021 455 8510 or any Garda station.
The woman is the sixth pedestrian to lose her life on Cork roads this year with 18 people killed in road accidents so far this year.
