Woman (50 years old) dies after being hit by a vehicle on N5 in Co Roscommon

A 50-YEAR-OLD WOMAN died after being hit by a vehicle on the N5 tonight.

The incident occurred around 5.30pm on the N5 between Strokestown and Scramogue Cross, Co Roscommon.

The pedestrian was fatally injured when she was struck by a vehicle on the Strokestown side of Scramogue Cross.

His body has since been moved from the scene to the Roscommon University Hospital morgue, where an autopsy will be performed at a later date.

The driver of the vehicle, a woman in her 60s, was unharmed and did not require medical attention.

The road remains closed at this time as forensic collision investigators are conducting a technical examination.

It will be mid-morning before the road reopens and local detours are established.

Gardaí is calling for witnesses to this collision to come forward.
