A woman died after being hit by a truck while crossing the street in Cork City.
The incident occurred after 4.50 pm this afternoon as the woman, believed to be 40, was crossing the street at Tinker’s Cross, near Mayfield Business Park.
Emergency services, including units from the Cork City Fire Brigade, attended the scene on Old Youghal Road.
A section of the road has been closed while emergency services deal with the incident, reports Cork Beo.
Motorists have been warned to avoid the area. A section of the highway has been closed for a forensic collision investigation.
Conditions on Cork Roads have been particularly bad today, with multiple accidents with torrential rain and poor visibility.
There was a second separate accident involving a pedestrian on the main road to Bandon, just before the bridge entering the city.
And there was a serious accident at the eastbound Jack Lynch Tunnel entrance just before 4pm, causing a serious disruption to rush hour traffic.
