Ireland is set for an “unstable” weekend when it comes to weather, and Met Eireann predicts changeable conditions, including heavy rains at times.
National forecasters say this weekend will be “changeable”, with widespread rains on some days while things clear up in other stages.
Last week’s icy weather appears to be on the wane, with the mercury finally leaning higher after a few perishable days.
But the cost comes in the form of more rain, with rains across the country in the coming days.
Here’s a breakdown of the weekend’s weather:
Friday
Friday will bring bright spells, and even sunny ones, but also the risk of scattered showers, which will then become longer in the counties on the Atlantic coast in the late afternoon.
Later, there will be clear spells and scattered showers, mostly confined to the western half of the country as the night progresses.
Friday will be a cold night, with minimum temperatures of 2 to 5 degrees.
Saturday
The proper first day of the weekend will be bright and (thankfully) mostly dry, although Met Eireann says some scattered showers are possible, particularly on the northwestern shores.
Later, rain will come from the Atlantic, with some heavy rainfall in some places, plus heavy gusts that will make things “windy” overnight.
There is also a risk of frost in the east and northeast.
Sunday
Sunday morning will bring the return of bright conditions once again, but there will be a mixture of sun and rain that will spread from the west of the country.
However, it will be mild, with highs of 9-12 degrees and moderate winds across most of Ireland.
During the night, there will be temperature drops of 5 to 8 degrees (considerably warmer than what we have seen in recent days), with clear periods and more rain.
