The National Parks and Wildlife Service requests information related to a vulture found dead on the R422, south of Emo, Co Laois.

The bird was perched in a tree by the side of the road when it was shot with a shotgun at around 7:50 a.m. on December 5.

The firearm was fired from the highway on the south side of town.

The investigating ranger said a shot was heard and that a member of the public found the vulture dead.

A spent shotgun shell was also found.

The NPWS is interested in information on a vehicle that was recorded on CCTV in the area; It is believed that people may be driving looking for vultures and then shooting at them from a vehicle.
