Gardaí arrested two men this morning as part of an investigation into the unexplained death of Corkman Darragh Sheehan in Kerry earlier this year.
The 26-year-old from Doneraile in Cork was found unconscious outside a hotel on Muckross Road in Killarney on Saturday night, August 29.
Both men (between the ages of 20 and 40) arrested this morning are currently being held under the provisions of section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Killarney Garda Station.
A Garda spokesman said that two men who had been arrested yesterday as part of the same investigation have now been released without charge. A file is currently being prepared for the Office of the Director of the Public Ministry.
Darragh Sheehan was found in the street outside the Gleneagle Hotel on Muckross Road by passersby shortly after 11:30 p.m. on the night of August 29.
He was in an unconscious state near the entrance of the well-known hotel.
Emergency services rushed to the scene and attempted emergency resuscitation, however Darragh was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
The area was immediately closed off and a technical examination was carried out.
At the time, Gardai in the city of Kerry appealed for anyone with information to contact them.
The Gardai were especially interested in talking to taxi drivers or motorists, possibly other guests arriving or leaving the hotel, who may have caught something on the dash cam when they found Darragh.
It is understood that the investigation made use of CCTV images of the area.
An honor guard from Darragh’s local GAA club formed at his funeral in early September.
At his requiem mass in Doneraile, Father Aidan Crowley read a letter written by Mr. Sheehan’s fiancee, Karen O’Sullivan. The couple just got engaged in February of this year.
In the letter, Ms. O’Sullivan paid tribute to her partner by saying that they had an amazing life together surrounded by their five beautiful dogs whom they loved to take for walks in Doneraile Park.
“Karen will never forget the moment he proposed to her in February. His declaration of love and the tears in his eyes will stay with her forever.
“It was the beginning of their love and devotion for each other, which will be forever. Words cannot describe how wonderful he was as promised.
“He truly was the most amazing, caring and devoted person that Karen will always have in her heart forever. He will always be hugging her heart. He was and will always be her only true love.”
Fr Crowley said that Darragh, who died in the “prime of his life”, was known for his “good character” and agreeable qualities.
