Ireland recorded 215 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday.
Unfortunately, HSE has also been notified of an additional virus-related death. There have been a total of 2,097 COVID-19 related deaths in Ireland.
Of the most recent cases, 95 are men and 119 women, with 60% under 45 years of age.
The average age is 37 years.
Again, the largest number of new cases was reported in Dublin with 74 people. There were 22 new cases in Donegal, and Kilkenny (15), Louth (14) and Limerick (11) are listed in today’s report.
Elsewhere, the remaining 79 cases were spread across 18 other counties.
As of 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, 210 patients with COVID-19 are hospitalized, of which 31 are in the ICU.
8 additional hospitalizations were reported in the past 24 hours.
Speaking on the latest figures, Dr. Tony Holohan, Health Department Medical Director, said: “Today the Government approved NPHET advice on prioritizing COVID-19 vaccines. This is an important step in the development of the vaccine strategy, which is being finalized by the high-level working group for vaccination against COVID-19.
“As each of us waits for the opportunity to get vaccinated, it is important that we continue to protect each other in the meantime, especially during Christmas and the months to come. Continue to follow public health advice; avoid crowded places, physical distance, wear face covers, wash hands regularly, and practice cough / sneeze etiquette ”
Three counties – Offaly, Sligo and Leitrim – saw no increase in cases in the latest figures.
