RTE viewers criticized last night’s Claire Byrne Live as “completely ridiculous” after a segment on how to have a free Covid Christmas dinner.

Hostess Claire asked about the fear of households getting mixed up, the hugging policy, and whether visitors are required to bring their own silverware.
Cliona said: “Ventilation is really important and I think in all the things that are emphasized, I don’t think there is enough emphasis on ventilation.
“So yeah, open the windows, open the doors. I think a good way to think about it is that Covid can be a bit like smoke in the air, so what would you do if you had an older uncle smoking a pipe or some cigarettes? in the living room on Christmas day and wanted to remove that smell?
“We are much less worried now than in March.
“The evidence shows that touching things has a fairly low risk and is about much more than what you inhale and exhale.”

Fans at home were less than impressed with the guidelines.

Famous gardener Diarmuid Gavin was on the show last night and admitted he was looking forward to a quiet Christmas.
He said: “Yes, I think we are almost there and it has not been a bad confinement for me, neither of us was.

“I’m thinking of people who are vulnerable in society, the rest of the use should go ahead.
“Alcohol, mixing that with socializing, it won’t be a normal Christmas and that doesn’t matter to me. I don’t care if it’s smaller and quieter.”
