Just 24 hours before Manchester United’s biggest game of the season, Paul Pogba came to dominate the headlines.
With the Red Devils facing a must-not-lose clash with RB Leipzig in the Champions League, Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola said. All the sports: “I can say it’s over for Paul Pogba in Manchester United. “
He added: “Paul is unhappy. He can no longer express himself as he would like and as expected of him. He has to change teams, he has to change his air.
“He has a contract that expires in a year and a half, but I think the best solution for the parties is to sell it in the next market.”
It is not the first time that Raiola has publicly faced the Red Devils.
After a war of words with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in February about Pogba, club legends Gary Neville and Roy Keane got involved.
Neville accused Raiola of trying to “embarrass” the club while predicting that he would inevitably end his departure as he warned the club that they needed to take a stand.
“It will end Paul Pogba, I believe, leaving Manchester United,” Neville told Sky Sports.
“What has to happen is that the club needs to take a stand on that agent. That agent has gotten them into trouble for years and years with Pogba and other players.
“I will never know why they allow it and why they are fooled by it.
“He’s a thorn in their side for them and Manchester United should stand their ground and say, ‘Look, we don’t do business with this guy. If you’re represented by him, we won’t deal with you.’
“He’s publicly trying to embarrass the club all the time. At the end of the day, he’s obviously
defending his player and defending Paul Pogba.
“But I don’t think what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said was an aggressive move against Paul Pogba.
“He was saying he’s the Manchester United player, they’ve paid £ 90 million for him and want him to stay at the club and play well. I wasn’t claiming ownership of him by any stretch of the imagination.”
“Raiola wants to create a situation. He wants Pogba to leave the club, he wants his next payday off.
“He has made tens and tens of millions of pounds with that player and will continue to do so for the rest of his playing days. He is a golden egg for Mino Raiola.”
Keane went one step further with his warning, telling his former club that they had no choice but to get rid of the French World Cup winner.
“There has been a lot of noise coming from the Pogba camp for several months,” Keane said.
“The simple thing I would do is quit for the summer. He is a good player, but there is too much baggage with him and his agent, so leave him on.
“Sometimes you have to lose to win. It may backfire on you, but if it’s not right for the club and these agents are laughing at you, then let these guys go. Look at the bigger picture.
“Don’t go after these players who really don’t want to be in the club.
“I don’t think Pogba wants to be there. So shake his hand and that’s it.”
United did not follow Keane’s advice and did not respond to Neville’s warning that it would continue to try to embarrass the club.
As a result, they have again been undermined ahead of a big game for their future, leaving Pogba’s future increasingly uncertain ahead of the January transfer window.
