A Christmas Drive-Thru in Limerick has reimbursed customers after it was described online as a “poor experience.”

The event that took place at Limerick Racecourse promised a “totally safe” twist on the Santa-seeing experience.

The event’s Facebook page explained: “As you get to the holiday experience, you will pass Gingerbread Houses with some surprise characters to see on your way.

“You will see the Mailroom where every letter sent to Santa is classified by the elves for him to read. You will see the Sorting Office where the elves are working hard to wrap all the presents and load them into sacks in time for the big day.

“You will drive the route, stopping at various points to enjoy the scenes and actors along the way. Then most importantly, you will see Santa’s living room, where you will see the big man himself. ”

Tickets were priced at € 38, but some attendees felt ripped off by the experience.

Irish author Darren Shan said it was “a totally lacking experience.”

He added that what was advertised “was a series of ‘gingerbread house’ driving tours, what we got were cheap green gazebos with virtually no accessories.

“Wrapping 3 boxes and putting a sign on a piece of cheap tinsel in the shop was pathetic. No attempt to give us what we were promised on the map sent before the event. ”

He added that there was “absolutely nothing special about it.”

Councilman Seán Hartigan added that it was “a pathetic and chaotic affair.”

Organizers have since issued a statement confirming that people had been reimbursed.

They also said photos of “underage actors and staff” were online causing “great anxiety for them.”

The statement read: “We can now confirm that we have refunded EVERY ticket sold. We had already refunded the unused tickets and we can confirm that all yesterday’s tickets have also been refunded. This will take a couple of days to reach your accounts. However, they have been prosecuted by us. Please check your email if you are expecting a refund.

Also note that there are hateful comments and photos on social media and in the press from underage actors and staff. This is causing them great anxiety and is grossly unfair.

“We believe that these should be removed from all social media channels as the actors did a fantastic job yesterday and it is unfair to put a face on this event.

“Obviously, we are very apologetic for what happened. It was never our intention to cause any distress. “Responding to the news that it had been canceled, Shan added,” I was not the only one who thought it was a miserable scam. “
