Caoimhín Kelleher’s name misspelled on Liverpool’s shirt to debut in the Premier League

Caoimhín Kelleher has proven to be a commentator’s nightmare in England and beyond since he wore the Liverpool goalkeeper jersey this week.

However, it is usually his first name that causes commentators to stumble over his vowels, apparently not relying on the phonetic pronunciation of ‘Qwee-veen’.

Getting the Kelleher right is by far the easy half, but Liverpool’s uniform makers have made their own mistake there.

Caoimhín, lined up for his Premier League debut against Wolves after his impeccable clean sheet in the Champions League against Ajax midweek, took to the field wearing a jersey with ‘KELLHER’ printed on the back.

Not that it affected the performance of the former Ringmahon Rangers goalkeeper, though, he did make an excellent all-out save to deflect a Daniel Podence shot off Kop early on, before switching to a properly written jersey at half-time.

He is also far from the first to suffer a misspelling at the hands of the kitman, with David ‘Beckam’, Zlatan ‘Irbahimovic’, Steven ‘Gerrrad’, Roque ‘Satna Cruz’ and ‘Jorghino’ among those affected by the kit’s gremlins. . .
