John McAreavey has announced the birth of his first child with his wife Tara Brennan, a baby boy named James.

Sharing the big news with an adorable social media post, Sunday John shared a snapshot showing him and Tara holding the sleeping little one and looking at him adoringly.

He simply captioned the image: “Let the adventures begin, James,” reports RSVP Live.

The couple also shared another photo of the baby shortly after he was born and sleeping soundly in his crib, which they set as a profile photo for their own Instagram account @jamesmcareavey.

This is the first child for John and Tara, who revealed they were expecting their first baby in September when the couple posted photos from their Donegal vacation.

Posing alongside Tara, who was very pregnant, John captioned the photo: “Good morning exploring Donegal with Tara and hit!”

John and Tara met after his first wife, Michaela Harte, was tragically murdered in her hotel room during their honeymoon in Mauritius.

They got engaged in October 2015 before tying the knot in a private wedding in front of friends and family in September 2016.

Commenting on his exciting news with Pat Kenny in Newstalk, John said that life has been good for him despite the devastation he has had to face since Michaela’s death.

“I think people sometimes think that when you have suffered because of the way I have suffered, maybe you just have to continue to be clouded by negative energy and you have to live your life in a certain way, almost in a victim mode, but the reality is that life has gone very well for me, ”he told Pat.

John said, “I was able to find Tara and we had a beautiful relationship and now we are about to have an addition to our family and it is something that I am very grateful for and very excited about.”

Speaking of his relationship with Tara, John continued, “She is fiercely protective of me. All she ever wants to know is if I’m okay.”

“It has been a journey that both of us have had to go on for the last few years, but we feel very comfortable with each other and we are very secure in each other.

“I think we gave ourselves that little bubble. We are a very close-knit group of family and friends, and really, that’s all that matters.”
